About OYA > Who are we?
The Ontario Yoga Association (OYA), was established in 1974. Since then, our organization has experienced a tremendous evolution. As Yoga has become increasingly recognized in helping to keep body, mind and spirit strong and healthy we have continued to grow. Our founding members continue to be some of the most respected Yoga teachers in Ontario.
Yoga teachings have been clarified in more than 5,000 years of practice, providing an insight into the benefits of what is the oldest holistic physical, mental and spiritual discipline. The Ontario Yoga Association is a non-profit, educational group that works to ensure the heritage of Yoga continues in a spirit of excellence and commitment.
OYA encourages members to develop a personal practice of integrity and openness, to teach safely with care for each student's needs and ability. As the popularity of Yoga increases and more and more people recognise the benefits of this gentle journey to inner health and wholeness, OYA believes strongly in the importance of good teacher training and ongoing professional development on the part of teachers.
The organization's goal is to promote Yoga at a professional level by maintaining an association, recognised by teachers and students throughout the province, which provides post-graduate registration to teachers who have trained at an established Yoga studio.
To introduce everyone interested in Yoga to the integrated aspects of Yoga, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and ethical.
To encourage people to benefit from the fulfilling journey of self discovery that is the essence of a regular Yoga practice.
To provide all Yoga students with well-qualified, safe, competent teachers.
To support Yoga teachers with tools to facilitate their profession.
