| Fees |
| |
The total fee for registration is now $158. A $50 non-refundable administration fee is to be paid with the application. The remaining $108 fee is to be paid when your application has been accepted. Once received, $108 will not be refunded.
The $108 fee is waived for graduates of OYA R yoga teacher training programs.

| Practicum |
As of May 1st, 2008, a OYA arranged practicum where you are observed teaching a class of yoga students is no longer a requirement for OYA Registration You may be asked to complete a practicum, if there is a need for further evaluation of your teaching skills.
Members who have graduated from a OYA Registered school (determined to have a practicum) are not required to do a second practicum.
For applicants required to do a practicum:
For a 200 hour program practicum, you will be asked to teach a beginner level, 5th week class to no less than 5 students with 1-2 OYA R teachers observing.
For a 500 hour program practicum, you will be asked to teach an Intermediate level 5th week class to no less than 5 students with 1-2 OYA R teachers observing. The class is to include intermediate and some advanced asana and pranayama and a minimum of 10 minutes of meditation.
Practicum markers are OYA R or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience.
The practicum must be completed within 6 months of the acceptance of your application. Mutually agreeable arrangements are made between marker and applicant. You may teach one of your own yoga classes, one of the practicum marker’s classes or OYA may arrange a class for you to teach and at which you will be evaluated.

| OYA R Special Considerations: |

| If you do not have yoga teacher training certification but have been taught by various teachers, the following applies: you must have actively taught Yoga for ten years with at least 500 hours of teaching experience. |

| Application for "OYA-R SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS" requirements: |
| |
Once the admission interview is passed, you will be sent your written exam material, and have three months to complete the open book examination. The exam consists of all aspects of yoga and its teachings. 80% or higher is required to successfully complete this exam, at which point a practicum will be arranged. For the practicum, you will be asked to teach a beginner level 5th week class to no less than 5 students with 1-2 OYA R teachers observing. The practicum and oral examination (one – two questions asked of the teacher after the practicum related to his/her yoga experience) must be completed within six (6) months of the successful completion of the written exam.
The total fee for certification is $300.00. A $50.00 non-refundable administration fee is to be paid with the application. The $250.00 fee is to be paid only if your application has been accepted and prior to registration beginning.

| After successful completion of the above criteria at all levels: |

You will be asked to submit a short biography and photograph. This will be published in OYA’s newsletter, OYA Oracle, to introduce you to our members. |

2. |
Details of OYA’s Insurance Plan will be sent.
Please note: Liability insurance is required of all registrants and is available through OYA at a reduced group rate once a person is successfully registered Contact the OYA office at info@ontarioyogaassociation.ca for more details. Insurance coverage under studio/centre you teach in is acceptable. |

There is a two year continuing education requirement to maintain your OYA R status. Please see Continuing Education requirements for more information. |

4. |
You are encouraged to practice Karma Yoga by volunteering to assist with the various activities of OYA- such as joining the Board, Committee work, continuing education program and administrative work. |

5. |
If you fail to successfully complete all components of the OYA registration process, you may retry at the examiners recommendation at a later date. The retry fee is $100, 50% of the original registration fee. |

6. |
Please keep a copy of OYA’s Code of Ethics and Conduct on hand as a reminder to honour and maintain a high level of professionalism in teaching. |

| Other Considerations: |

If a former OYA “R” member (formerly known as OYA “C”) wants to reinstate her/his registration/certification, she/he will be required to write a 2,000-word essay in order to demonstrate continued knowledge of the teaching of yoga. The Education & Registration Chairperson will determine focus. The fee for re-registration is $150.00. |

OYA R – Special Consideration applicants:
Lapsed membership part way through the registration process will not require the re-writing of the exam but you will need to write a 2,000-word essay in order to demonstrate continued knowledge of the teaching of yoga. Education and Registration Chairperson will determine focus. All the unfinished pieces of the registration process will need to be completed. A full payment of $300 registration fee is required. |
